One may assume that in Nova Scotia, in the future, the number of acupuncturist will approach the numbers of massage therapists. Currently there are over 1000 massage therapists in Nova Scotia and less than 75 acupuncturists. Much of the difference in numbers may be attributed to the fact that there have been no career colleges graduating acupuncturists in Nova Scotia up to this time and very little public education on the benefits of acupuncture. This is now changing.

People are experiencing acupuncture, acupressure, auricular medicine, reflexology and herbal medicine. They are finding friendly solutions that they did not know existed. Patients who know, are referring friends and family for treatment for both prevention and healing.

The abundance of massage therapists is to the point where many massage therapists are looking to expand their skill set to include acupuncture to gain a competitive advantage and to extend their careers given the burn- out massage therapists experience. Many physiotherapists and chiropractors have already taken acupuncture courses proving the value of even a limited application of acupuncture to soft tissue injury.

But courses are no match for the in-depth, comprehensive training involved in earning a diploma in acupuncture through the Canadian College of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
